Kern County

The behavioral consultation and social skills services we provide are
services purchased by the Kern Regional Center (KRC), other
independent agencies (e.g., group homes, day programs, vocational
training centers and behavior management programs, etc.), and private
individuals for the benefit of people diagnosed with developmental
disabilities. Services include varying intensity depending on the level of
need.  All services are supervised by a licensed clinical psychologist.

Behavioral Consultation: A behavioral therapist will conduct a
functional assessment with you, targeting specific problem behaviors
and areas of need.  Examples include toilet training, dressing and
hygiene skills, anger management (tantrum or aggression issues), stress
management, elopement, improving cooperativeness, etc.  The
assessment process may involve interviewing you and other important
people in the person’s life, direct observations in multiple
environments, and record reviews. A formal written assessment and
intervention plan will be reviewed with you and proposed for
implementation to address specific behavioral goals. Services are
typically provided during weekly meetings, addressing a few specific
behavioral goals by educating parents and other key social agents to
use behavior analytic techniques. Services are ended when behavioral
goals are achieved.

Social Skills Training: Assessments are conducted addressing ten
areas of need, and an intervention plan is reviewed with you to address
all identified areas.  This program focuses on skill building through
direct one-on-one work with the individual a couple of times per week.
When work has completed in relation to these ten skills, services are
transitioned to a community, social setting to assist the individual in
generalizing the skills. Services are ended when behavioral goals are
achieved.

Behavioral Assistance in School Settings: We are available to
contract services with schools at any level of need from consultation
services to providing one-on-one in home and/or in school
programming as determined by the individual’s IEP team.
